No, from what I read at the autodesk site, VIZ is for architects. I didn't see 3D Studio V4 in their product list... May be they don't support it anymore (it's old and worked under DOS !). However, I think it should be possible to use Max: what are exactly the problems you face of when using Max to import/export with TRViewer ?
I will poke around to see if I can test TRViewer's produced files with Max.
