Hi Bitshifter,
I think that it simply isnīt possible to create a room or level without no walls or collision mesh in. Iīm really good in creating rooms where lara can reach the worldīs borders very easy. The las one was quite fun. I did a room without walls, but some tiles that looked like the teeth of a giant stone dragon. Behind these there was simply nothing. The engine didnīt crash but Lara was able to walk outside of the platform and over the teeth which seemed to be rebuild (invisible) to infinity.
